Golden temple AmrirsarThe fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ramdas was the one who initiated the construction the magical Golden Temple in year 1579. Golden Temple is situated in the city of Amritsar in Punjab, which is considered as a Holy city by the Sikh community. Amritsar is the city with 5 rivers which flow to nourish the lush green fields and form fundamental cause of the States’ amazing greenery. The Golden Temple also known as Darbar Sahib means a lot to Sikhs all over the world. For the Sikh Community, it symbolizes the grandeur, strength, spirit and power of tolerance and respect to the philosophy offered by the religion. Guru Arjun Sahib made sure that this holy shrine was constructed such that it had 4 entrance gates and exits from all four sides. The spirit of this wonderful temple is such that it is open for all the people regardless their caste, religion, creed and sexuality. And this makes this place more magical and spiritual.

Structure of the Golden Temple

Golden Temple stands tall with a height of 67 feet. The temple has got 4 exit and entry doors, in North, South, East and West directions. The 40.5 feet center stage is a stupendous structure. The main entrance, which is called as The Darshani Deori has got an incredible arch shape which is beautifully decorated in authentic artistic style and is about 10ft in height and 8ft wide.

This amazing Golden Temple is 202feet tall and covers a width of 21 feet, and is actually a multi floor edifice. The first floor of the temple is actually dedicated to ‘The Guru Granth Sahib’ which is the holy book of Sikhs. This section is also called as ‘Har ki Paure’ and is beautifully designed with amazing arches.

All these interesting facts make this temple an attraction to the people all over the world. There are few other holy enshrines in the vicinity Golden Temple which include Guru Ka Langar, Akal Takhat and Baba Atal and they have a great importance in the lives of Sikh community.
