Khajuraho Temples

Khajuraho temple scenesKhajuraho Temple is situated at the capital of glorious Chandela capital. Although, Khajuraho is a special attraction for newly married couples and is a wonderful honeymoon location, the village is full of ancient temples. Chandela kings are better known for their generosity and jolly life style and this essence can be found in the architecture of that time also. The work of the artists behind its carving and sculptures symbolizes emotions like love, joy, happiness and installs life in the ancient rocks.

Special attraction

Architectural design behind Khajuraho Temple is very much different from conventional ancient Indian temples. The villages housed around 85 temples but most of them destroyed by the Britishers and at present there are only 22 temples left. And each temple has its own story and beauty, which makes them worth visiting.

Temples

Khajuraho temple is spread over a huge area and is mainly divided into three different sections. Khajuraho temple has been a special attraction for Indian as well as overseas tourists. The design of the temple with the unique, authentic and beautiful carving and sculptural art make this place very majestic. Artists have literally given life to the stone by their skillful and beautiful work.

The Western Group

Khajuraho Lakshmana Temple

This group includes the most beautiful and significant temples constructed by the rulers of Chandela Empire which include The Lakshmana Temple, Visvanatha temple, the Matangesvara Temple, Nandi temple and the Varaha Temple. This section is located at the centre of site of the Khajuraho temple.

The Eastern Group

This is the group of different temples which makes it an interesting section to visit. The place has three Jain temples which include the Adinath, Parsvanath and Ghantai temples and three Brahmin temples which are Vamana, Javari and Brahma temples. The whole group comprises of temples belonging to different isolated groups of the ancient Khajuraho village.

The Southern Group

This group is literally the isolated group of all. The Duladeo and the Chaturbhuja temples are two distantly located edifices which complete this group. The Chaturbhuja temple is a mile away from the Khajuraho village and is the proximity to Khajuraho airport. Whereas the Duladeo temple falls in between the Khajuraho village & the Chaturbhuja Temple and is in the south-west direction to the three Jain temples.
