Lotus Temple, Delhi

Lotus temple is completely different from any other conventional temple. You will find an idol, sculpture or picture of any God or Goddess. It is also known as Bahai temple and its foundation stone was laid on 21st April, 1980 and was inaugurated in year 1986. It is called Lotus temple because of its amazing shapes, which looks like a half-open status. This wonderful temple is constructed by marble, sand and cement. Lotus temple is the resemblance of Bahai believes which preaches the equality of all religions and customs. This is the reason that Lotus temple is open to everybody.

Construction of the Temple

Lotus TempleYou can find its interior attic similar to a bud with inner folds and 27 petals. You can hardly find any difference, if you observe this breath taking construction and a real lotus. There are nine open petals, which appear like skylight and looks like adjudging the central bud. The nine petals are actually the entrance gates of the temple. This amazing and incredible resemblance of the temple with the actual Lotus makes it very special. Only marbles and white concrete are used to construct this edifice. There are pools beside this temple, which gives it a complete and comprehensive look of floating Lotus with glittering petals.

Significance of the Design

According to Hindu Mythology, Brahma (the creator) has actually come from the Lotus flower which was originated from Lord Vishnu’s Navel. It resembles the pureness and serenity, and it is the reason that Lotus temple is considered as an ideal place to do meditation.

Indian culture is very much related with the Lotus. Even the Lord Buddha has used the example of Lotus in his preaching’s. He said that Lotus flourishes and exhibits its purity and beauty even though it nourishes in dirty water, and human race has got so much to learn from the qualities of a Lotus.
